In the sweltering heat in the gulf, the emphasis or trend in house or building construction is to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels to meet the energy costs for cooling the room atmosphere during the summer and for heating the room during winter. When compared to the energy use in the UAE and in other gulf countries with that of the third world countries, due to the continuous use of refrigeration and air conditioning systems, the per capita power consumption is twice or even thrice the average power consumed by an individual in a third world country. Thus the national government is giving emphasis on the use of eco-friendly building construction materials for roofs, floors, walls, floor tiles, windows and doors so that when the temperatures are rising outside the inside of the room will remain cool. Similarly when the outside temperature has reached sub-zero levels, the inside of the room will always remain warm. The new approach with respect to high rise building structures is to limit the use of concrete. Even though the load bearing capacity of the traditional building materials are rather low, the new trend is to use concrete for piling, beams and pillars and for walls, flooring, windows and doors the traditional building construction materials are being used. Since such eco-friendly flats and apartments are having many takers, the green approach is getting popular. When owners list such properties for sale property prices are on the higher side because the actual living costs are very low in such green living spaces.
